Electronic Document and Records Management Using Microsoft SharePoint 2007 without the need for an additional back end repository
In late 2005 Defra decided not to roll out its EDRM solution. The Department has re-evaluated its requirements for the management of electronic information and records and explored alternative ways to deliver e-Records other than the traditional EDRM route, seeking a solution better suited for our customer's business (rather than purely record management needs).
Simultaneously, Defra has also been seeking ways and means of delivering a collaborative working environment both within Defra and externally across its stakeholder base. Some government departments and many private organizations already use Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as a collaborative tool. The latest version of this product has the added benefit of an integrated records repository. Defra has utilized this functionality of MOSS 2007 to harvest records created in SharePoint Team Sites into structured records stores.
This session will explain Defra's journey to delivering eRecords capability; our approached to utilizing MOSS2007 functionality to deliver eRM benefits using SharePoint without the need for a separate EDRM system in the back end.
