Has EDRM been a success?
David Bowen
EDRMS, a member of a teenaged gang (including CRM, ECM, CMS, DMS, Information Management and Information Governance), has not failed herself nor us, though we fear her gang, and blame them for anything we don.t like. As with most teenagers, she takes careful handling, and her real achievements are yet to come.
But we should not overlook her early successes. Chaotic organisations have been introduced to metadata, information sharing, process management, retention reviews and disposal, and effective search engines. If EDRMS and her friends are treated with less fear and a more open accepting attitude, and if they are given the support and training they need, they will continue to serve and benefit all of us.
Steve Bailey
The case against the assertion that ERMS has been a success rests on three unfortunate and yet indisputable facts: that EDRMS have failed our organisations, have failed our users and have failed the records management profession - each with disastrous consequences. The prosecution's case will demonstrate why this has been so and the damage this has done to virtually all concerned in recent years.
