Beyond the Hannigan Report: What are the Challenges and Opportunities arising from the Government's Reviews into Data Protection?

Conference 2008 Sponsored Session 1 - Monday 11.30-12.30

It's not often that Records Management and Security are the lead item on the 10 O'Clock News - but that happened in Nov 2007 when HMRC lost 26M records and other organisations also confessed to similar lapses.

This session will look at the three reviews (led by the Information Commissioner, PwC's Kieran Poynter and the security chief Robert Hannigan) which the Government set up to investigate and remedy the lapses in both the private and public sectors.

The issue is also being scrutinised by Parliament and the media. Within the context of data protection systems in Whitehall, the Chairman of the Justice Select Committee recently commented: "The situation is very serious. People are extraordinarily blase. The procedures are hopelessly lax". So what should be done? The session will focus on the challenges and solutions that are being driven by these inquiries.
