Christopher Tinsley, Wiltshire County Council

Christopher Tinsley

Coming from the heart of rural Somerset Chris has worked in IT for longer than he would like to mention. Starting on mainframe support sometime during the 1980's he progressed to supporting PC's and fileservers. He joined Wiltshire County Council in 1996 after 11 enjoyable years living in Cornwall and fixing IT problems in the Royal Naval Dockyard in Plymouth Devon. During this time he developed a love of pasties, Devon cream teas (cream first, strawberry jam on top), submarines and ships.

Since starting work in Wiltshire County Council he has worked on Server support, networking, IT Security and Data Protection and he is willing to give you a view on any of these subjects. He is a long time contributing member of the South West Information Compliance group.

In 2004, with Freedom of Information looming, he was sent by a desperate Local Authority on a Records Management MSC at Northumbria University which he passed in 2006. The change from the cavalier world of IT support to the disciplines of Records Management was eye opening.

Since 2006 he has been trying to make sense of the filing habits and systems of a medium sized county council. On April 1st 2009 he has the pleasure of 4 average sized District councils being added to his problems.

When not thinking about Records Management he can be found supporting Somerset County Cricket Club and Bath rugby, he has also taken to supporting Plymouth Albion and the Cornish Pirates.
