Stephen Harries, Critical Information

Stephen Harries

Stephen Harries is an independent consultant specialising in the management of records, information and knowledge for public policy delivery.

He previously headed the cross-government Electronic Records initiative - to establish EDRM in government departments - based at the Public Record Office / National Archives, leading development of the "PRO" EDRM functional standards and software testing scheme, producing a range of guidance, and advising departments on implementation.

He followed this with a spell as senior programme manager at the Office of Government Commerce, working on the improvement of major project and programme delivery in central government, and implementation of the Gershon Efficiency Review.

He has a long background in information management and information systems, with periods in higher education, the software industry and healthcare; and with a particular interest in strengthening the role of knowledge, information and records management for organisational change and business transformation in the public sector.

He is currently researching information architectures for knowledge-based governance in the public sector.
