IRMS Ireland is back in Belfast on Thursday, 6 April 2017

IRMS Ireland are pleased to announce that the next meeting of the Group will be held in Belfast on Thursday, 6 April 2017 in the beautiful surroundings of Belfast City Hall.

Topics will include SharePoint for records management with case studies from two County Councils who have rolled out a SharePoint solution (we think your colleagues in IT will find this interesting, so please bring them along).

And of course we will take a closer look at how some of our members are preparing for GDPR from May 2018.

Registration closes today for the annual joint IRMS Ireland/ARA Ireland training event for members only How to Champion your work

The workshop which runs from 10.30-13.30 aims to:

  • Help you to be strategic in your internal advocacy and communications; and match organisational priorities.
  • Help you to understand what makes a good story / issue for colleagues in communications.
  • Improve your ability to persuade colleagues and make your case simply.
  • Help you to identify allies and stakeholders in archives and records management in the organisation and where you can develop mutually-beneficial collaboration.
  • Equip you to understand and develop communications techniques.

After lunch speakers will be Deirdre Allison, Corporate Records Manager, Belfast Health & Social Services Trust Be Like a Wimbledon Champion – Adapt to Anything;

Joint ARA,I /IRMS Ireland training event, Thursday 19 November 2015, Dublin

Not long now until the IRMS Ireland Region's annual members' training event with the ARA,I .

We have an exciting panel of speakers, with John McDonough, Director of the National Archives, Jo Kenny from the Office of the Ombudsman and Information Commissioner, Joanne Rothwell, Waterford City and County Archivist, Hugh Campbell, PRONI and Ed Pinsent, University of London Computer Centre.

In the afternoon we have a Digital Preservation Workshop with James Carr and Mike Quinn of Preservica.

We will be touching on electronic records and archives, the Freedom of Information Act 2014(ROI) and digital preservation. The meeting is fully subscribed and is the place to be this Thursday for anyone involved in #archives and #records management in Ireland.

We will follow with the Ireland region's AGM.

"Issues in contemporary records management" - IRMS Ireland event with UCD, 1 October

Very excited about the joint UCD/IRMS Ireland meeting tomorrow with a great line up of speakers (Julie McLeod, Zoe Smyth, Claire Johnson, Conan Tormey, Alan Bell , Mark Farrell and Jeannette Strickland).

Hoping to show the incoming MA students in University College Dublin that records management is a happening space these days in Ireland.

Save the Date - IRMS Ireland meetings in October and November

The remaining meetings of the IRMS Ireland Group in 2015 will be held in Dublin. 

joint symposium on issues in contemporary records management will be held on Thursday, 1 October at UCD Humanities Institute, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4  between 10.00 and 16.30. The speakers are Julie McLeod, Zoe Smyth, Claire Johnson, Jeanette Strickland, Mark Farrell and Alan Bell. Numbers will be limited so early booking is recommended. 

Our annual joint training event with the Archivists and Records Association, Ireland (ARA,I) will be held onThursday, 19 November at the Irish Architectural Archive, 45 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 between 10.00-16.00. Topics include the new FOI legislation in ROI, implementing a digital preservation strategy, and there will be a SharePoint case study from a local authority. Speakers include John McDonough, Director of the National Archives and Ed Pinsent of the University of London Computer Centre.
