27 March 2009 - LGG Meeting

The Local Government Group met on Friday March 27th 2009 at the Abbey Centre, Westminster. The meeting was sponsored by Sue Hill Recruitment and the morning sessions were led by Nicola Franklin from Sue Hill Recruitment.

Nicola gave a presentation entitled ''Marketing your Skills and your Services'' which was a brief introduction about developing for internal promotion and then using similar skills to promote the records management service. The meeting then split up into smaller groups to consider the following questions:

• What is your organisation's vision mission?
• How is that vision or mission translated into measurable objectives and goals?
• How does your records service contribute to meeting those goals?

  The groups then went on to consider some further discussion around the following questions:

• What activities do you/could you undertake to raise the profile of the records management service in your organisation?
• What barriers exist to raising the profile of the records management service in your organisation and how could these be overcome?

  In the afternoon the different groups considered four different areas of records management and brainstormed ideas on to posters covering the following subjects:

• What exactly do records managers do?
• Using risk management to sell records management?
• Using the right language to get the right benchmark for records management jobs?
• Return on investment.
